- Footage
Transcription: the transcription of dialogue from video
tapes, films etc
- Subtitling: the
transcription and translation of on-screen dialogue into
displayed text that is embedded into the media.
- Closed-captioning:
similar to subtitling, but no translation is involved.
Closed-captioning transcription services may also take the
form of real time transcription services (interactive
broadcasting).
- Script
Transcription: a component of media transcription referring
to the creation of a textual representation (transcript) of
films, TV shows etc
- Linguistic
Transcription: the process of transcribing spoken language
into written language, or written language into another
written format; Linguistic transcription includes the
transcription of audio files or written shorthand into full
written form and the phonemic transcription process of
matching sounds to written symbols to be fully transcribed
later.
- Phonetic
Transcription: converting the sounds of spoken words using
a phonetic alphabet symbolizing the actual pronunciation of
words
- Orthographic
Transcription: converting spoken words into text using the
conventional spelling of a language
- Phonemic
Transcription: the process of translating an input
language, usually a speech waveform or an orthographic
transcription, into symbols (phonemes); it is the most
common type of phonetic transcription.
- Real Time
Transcription: a general term used particularly with
reference to court proceeding transcription by court
reporters using Computer Aided Transcription (CAT) to
deliver text transcripts to computer screens seconds after
the words are spoken. Real Time Transcription is also used
in broadcasting (captioning).
- Wav Transcription:
wav (or wave) is short for Waveform, a digital audio file
format that can be copied directly to a computer to be
transcribed on a word processor.
